A press conference was held on May 13 to invite global suggestions on naming the first pedestrian bridge across the Pearl River in Guangzhou, China. Built by China Railway Guangzhou Engineering Group Co., Ltd., the bridge is the world’s first pedestrian bridge with oblique arch and curved beams. The upper structure is made up by a main steel arch measuring 53.5+166+53.5 meters and approach bridges each with continuous steel box girders measuring 40 meters. The bridge abutment features cylinder pillars and cast-in bored piles. The main arch measures 198 meters, and the vector height is 56 meters. The bridge floor measures 15 meters in the widest part. When completed, it will be the world’s longest-span pedestrian bridge.(By Li Shouqin)
